generally the bank takes the property but won't evict the tenant. it is very hard to evict a tenant that can prove they were paying rent properly even if the landlord was blowing it on drugs and gambling or w/e. it can be done but its just a huge pain. its not worth going through the litigation especially since that tenant is a reliable revenue stream for their distressed property
