Playing some more deckbuilder roguelites and games that are mostly like them I think I see why people like Slay the Spire more now: Most games in this genre are slop and the ones that are meaningfully good and worth dozens of hours of play can be counted on one hand. (I don't think Slay the Spire joins that number at all.)

Monster Train and Slice and Dice are the two I think hold up
