Cutting is a push/pull between sharpness, edge geometry, blade profile and technique.
A wood splitting axe for instance can be razor sharp but be a dog shit cutter.
Assuming the blade is sharp and suited for it, it doesn't require a lot of force at all. Bottles and cans are used for test cutting a lot because they're perfect gauges to test your technique and edge alignment, because Assuming all else about the blade is good, a hip pivot or decent swing from the elbow should cut through it completely without sending the bottle flying.
